Edinburgh, Scotland

My roommate and I decided to take a quick day trip to one of my favorite cities in Scotland - Edinburgh. It is the capital of Scotland and is an absolutely charming and gorgeous city, especially the Old and New Town, which houses days worth of activities and cool places to explore. The first place that we went to was the New Town. We ran into typical Scottish weather and the day started off with a thick sheet of fog that obstructed most of the beautiful views of the city. We then, moved to the park on the North side of Edinburgh castle. Again, the fog clouded the view, but the effect of the fog made the view still so beautiful.

Next, we moved to the Old Town and walked to the castle to book our tickets for the tour before heading down the road to visit the Scottish Parliament building and the palace. The weather became cold and rainy, typical of Scotland, and it made it difficult for a while to sightsee. We then ate really good Indian food and went to the National Museum of Scotland to spend some time before embarking on our tour of Edinburgh Castle. The weather cleared up, making it a beautiful sunny day for the rest of our trip to the city. The castle is very cool to visit, having museums within the walls to portray the castle's vast history and it also gives very nice views of surrounding Edinburgh. It was money well spent and I would highly recommend visiting the castle when in the city.

Following our visit at the castle, we went to the most scenic viewpoint of the castle which lies south of the structure. It is a brief staircase up and it offers picturesque views, but it can be crowded as it is a very popular spot for wedding pictures and photoshoots. We then got some ice cream close by at a shop called Mary's Milk Bar and we made our way back to the park that we started the day off with because of the weather change from the morning. After our brief stay there, we made our way back to the train station to head back to Glasgow and end our time in Edinburgh until next time.

Edinburgh has the most to offer out of any Scottish city, and the surrounding views plus the history of the town makes it a must see destination when in the area. I had a great time and I highly recommend a visit to the city.
