If you have never been to Croatia and want a gorgeous holiday to a European country, Croatia is a potential destination for you. My travels brought me to Zadar, Croatia, a beautiful town along the Adriatic Sea with an amazing Old Town. The city has an international airport outside the city limits that offers many travel options - I personally recommend Uber because it is quite cheap compared to taking a Taxi.
The first day, we ventured outside of the city to visit the Plitvice Lakes National Park located two hours by bus North of the city. It was a jaw-dropping experience, as it offers everything a person could want out of a park; high views, up-close experiences, a combo of long and short hikes, with food and leisure activities included just to name a few. The water was a beautiful green and blue color, with gorgeous blue skies and warm weather to accompany the views. There are also several options for hikes, some being short, long, easy, strenuous. This means it is very easy to personalize your experience and go around whatever time constraints you may have. I highly recommend taking the ferry across to the back portion of the park as this was my favorite portion due to the cascading lakes and a variety of waterfalls to see. When in Croatia, this is a must see place and will be a highlight of any trip.
Day two of the trip was our adventure day. We started by renting bikes and then taking the ferry to the islands across from Zadar. It is cheap to do this and the ferry ride is about twenty minutes. While there, we rode the bikes up a trail to the summit of the highest peak in the area. The top of the mountain had a ruin of a building that offered picturesque view of the surrounding areas. It was a surreal experience and even though the trek up the mountain was tough at times, the view was well worth it. The ride down was also a thrill ride!
After our ride down, we ate lunch at the town of Preko which offered a wide variety of restaurants to choose from. We then rented standing paddle boards to explore the coastal regions of the island. It was easily one of the most fun and gratifying experiences I've ever had. The water was some of the clearest I've ever seen and offered looks of the sea live, including fish and sea urchins. We were able to snorkel for a while, but myself not being a fan of cold water limited the time that I could stay in the water. Overall, an extremely cool experience that offered incredible views of the surrounding areas and a great way to end the day on the island.
Overall, Croatia in general is a very welcoming place that is good to visit for anyone looking for an adventure. It was easily the most fun two days of my life and I have not a single regret from my time spent there. I will find myself back in the country one day, and I highly suggest you to visit as well. You'll never forget your time spent in the country!
