St. Andrews, Scotland

As a golf fan, St. Andrews has always been a bucket list location for me to visit, and my excitement levels on the way were as high as they could get. Because of the rail strikes currently happening across the UK, my group and I had to take a special route to St. Andrews. We took a two hour long bus ride from Glasgow to Dundee, Scotland and then we took a thirty minute bus ride from Dundee to St. Andrews. The first location I wanted to visit was obviously the Old Course, which is the world's second oldest golf course. I timed the trip excellently as it was the same weekend as the Dunhill Links Championship, which is a DP World Tour event which has a field of the some of the best golfers in the world right now. I was able to see names such as Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood just to name a few, which I still cannot believe as I am a massive fan of both! I even got to take a picture on the infamous Swilcan Bridge on the eighteenth hole, the most recognizable bridge in all of golf. I had an excellent time around the Old Course and I would highly recommend the spot to golf fanatics and non-golf fans.

Around St. Andrews, you can always stay near the cliff edges and beautiful rocky beaches. A great way to spend some time in the city is to walk on the beach, especially in the afternoon when the sunset is gorgeous and the water is very calm. Visit the Cathedral and the Castle as well as they are a sight to see. Past these locations is a long peer that you can walk to the end and get great views of the town and the surrounding areas. My group and I also went to the main shopping street of the city where there is many food options and coffee shops.

Finally, being as big of a golf an as I am, I visited the R&A World Golf Museum. It has hundreds of years of golf history, with the oldest item being from the 1600s I believe. It was quite the site to see and is a perfect place for golf and non-golf fans, as everyone can learn something from the museum. The photo below is of the Claret Jug, which is the trophy that the winner of the Open Championship receives. It is played every year and is played at the Old Course in St. Andrews every five years. It is one of the most famous trophies in all of sports and is displayed in the Golf Museum.

For all golf enthusiasts and non-golf fans who are in love with the aesthetic of Scotland and the architecture found in the old cities of the country, St. Andrews is a perfect place to visit while in Scotland and is must see. I had a fantastic time in the city and it is very accessible to people of all backgrounds. It is a place you will never forget, and I certainly will not after my visit.
