Loch Lomond, Scotland

As an exchange student from America studying in Glasgow, Scotland, I am very interested in the Scottish terrain and was very excited for this trip, especially due to its natural beauty and charming nature that I had heard so much about while doing research. It was only an hour and a half away from Glasgow, with an hour train ride to the city of Balloch and then a thirty minute bus ride to the city of Balmaha, which is a picturesque little town on Loch Lomond. My group and I went on a hike to the top of Conic Hill, which starts at the visitor center next to the bus stop. The hike took about three hours in total because of constant stops to take in the beautiful views and a long break at the top in order to memorize every detail I could about the stunning 360 degree view. It is a moderate hike with stairs and some sections of loose terrain and my group and I agreed that it is not a hard hike whatsoever. If in Balmaha, I would definitely suggest a packing hiking gear and embarking on the Conic Hill hike.

The city does not have many restaurants to choose from, but the ones that they do have a very excellent. As an American, I did not recognize most of the food on the menu at the restaurant that we chose, but I stuck with the fish and chips and it was excellent. After spending some time eating and talking, my group and I went on a ferry to one of the islands in the middle of Loch Lomond in order to explore and spend time in nature while marveling at the beauty of the area. The ferry was fairly priced and the boat ride was no longer than five minutes. The island had ruins of a thousand year old church and the remnants of an old farmstead that occupied the island at one point. For a relaxing break, we went onto the beach and sat down, listening to the ocean and viewing the extremely beautiful landscape in front of us. I would highly recommend the ferry ride to the island from the city Balmaha.

My experience for the day was absolutely incredible and I could not recommend this location any more. The weather was incredible and everyone that we came across and met were extremely friendly and willing to hold conversation. An extremely welcoming place with incredible views, Loch Lomond is a must see location for travelers who are in the Glasgow area.
